To meet the growing demand from the population for quality local food, Alteo and Innodis signed a strategic partnership agreement on June 25 to establish a poultry farm in Olivia. This agreement is a natural continuation of a 35-year collaboration between the two entities.
The project also reflects both Alteo’s and Innodis’s shared commitment to reducing the country’s reliance on imports by strengthening local production and sustainably contributing to reaching the nation’s objective of food self-sufficiency. In line with both companies’ practices, the chickens will be raised in modern facilities and fed a cereal-based diet, containing no animal by-products, no coloring agents, no antibiotics and no growth hormones. The future Olivia farm will therefore offer consumers healthy, local, and premium-quality meat.
Through this partnership, Alteo will exceed 10% of the national chicken production, achieving over 6,000 tonnes per year. Beyond poultry farming, Alteo is also active in deer farming, hydroponic greenhouse cultivation, as well as sugar cane cultivation and processing.
For its part, Innodis – an industry pioneer since 1973 – manages a fully integrated operation including a feed mill, breeding farms, hatcheries, rearing farms, processing, and distribution units, with a continuous focus on quality and innovation.
“This project demonstrates our shared commitment with Innodis to support the Mauritian economy and offer Mauritians sustainable access to quality food products. At Alteo, we believe that local investment and responsible land development are essential levers to build sustainable agriculture and a more resilient economy,” emphasized Fabien de Marassé Enouf, CEO of Alteo, after the agreement signing.
Jean‑Pierre Lim Kong, CEO of Innodis, said he was “delighted to renew and expand our long-standing collaboration with Alteo, initiated 35 years ago. The signing of this new agreement concerning chicken farming at Olivia is a major step in our joint commitment to strengthening food security and Mauritius’s self‑sufficiency. Innodis and Alteo share the same desire to continue this partnership for the benefit of the Mauritian population.”
Construction of the Olivia poultry farm will begin as soon as the project obtains the necessary approval from the authorities.
